Freedom’s Price
Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death
Happy 4th of July! I am proud to be an American and I love my country. I am not proud of the standards this country now abides by but I have great respect for my forefathers. They literally gave up all that they held dear because they valued freedom above all else.
Today as we celebrate the birth of our great nation many of us will be looking forward to certain enjoyable activities. It might be attending a parade, maybe a family barbecue or maybe a dazzling fireworks display. How many of us will pay tribute to and honor those who made these things possible? Did you ever go back and read the history books that tell in great detail the fate of those that paid for our freedom?
This country was based on a love and fear of almighty God. Today the laws and values of our government do not include or acknowledge God. Instead, immorality and lawlessness are on the rampage. Oh how I wish George Washington could resurrect and see the so called leaders of this nation today. I don’t think he could comprehend the destruction man has allowed.
George Washington said ” it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.”
John Jay, who was the first chief justice said ” the Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts”. Wow. Today we are taking the Bible out of the schools and making it useless and pointless to a nation that desperately needs God. How many government officials do you think read the Bible or even know how to pray and hear the precious voice of God?
This quote is from a 1787 Yale student guideline ” all the scholars are required to live a religious and blameless life according to the rules of God’s word, diligently reading the Holy scriptures, that fountain of Divine light and truth. And constantly attending all the duties of religion”. Do you know any government leaders who follow these instructions? Me either.
It is with great sadness that I read these quotes from those people who not only spoke those words but lived by them. Many sacrificed their lives and property to gain the freedoms that we take so lightly.
We need to enjoy and appreciate all that the Lord has allowed us to possess in this present world we live in. Freedom has a tremendous price. Today as you enjoy the activities that you have the privilege of participating in, take a few moments and thank almighty God for allowing you to be an American. Be grateful in your heart to those true Patriots who valued freedom above life and wealth. Take a few minutes to go online and research some of their stories, it will make you thankful.
