Stress Lifters
They are spirit lifters and stress relievers!!!
It is a typical gloomy overcast day with rain in the forecast for later this afternoon. It is definitely a battle to combat these dreary days between now and spring. As I was contemplating whether to build a fire due to the chilly temperatures, I glanced out the window and saw my 11 month old 80 pound chocolate lab puppy, swimming! It made me smile and immediately lifted my spirit. Sometimes its just a simple act or gesture that can spark a change of attitude.
I love animals, especially dogs and goats. As I watched my puppy splashing in the chilly pond I couldn’t help but take a moment to reflect on all the joy I have received because of my animals. I currently have 2 dogs, both chocolate labs, one is 14.75 and one is 11 months. My older dog would win a prize for devotion and loyalty if there was one! She has been my special devoted friend through many heart aches and difficult times. There’s nothing like the comfort of a loyal dog at your side continuously. I will always be grateful to God for the tremendous blessing she has been in my life. My puppy has also brought such energy and life to our home and certainly keeps my days filled with activity. She loves to dig and chew but her heart is pure gold. She is the most social lovable dog we have ever had.
I have 3 cats that I also love. Colonel Mustard, Leo and Oscar. They are all great friends and also have very different personalities. They are very affectionate and partial to me. Cats, like dogs are very intuitive, smart and loving.
I currently have 7 goats. I have raised goats for 30 years and can’t imagine a “goatless” existence. There is nothing cuter than a baby goat frolicking in the field. I have had some wonderful goats through the years. I spend many hours during the winter months, out in the barn, socializing with my goat friends. They know their names and are the greatest pets.
I also have chickens. They are simply to have a constant egg supply and to consume scraps!
I also love horses but after my horse died at 28 I just haven’t had good enough health to justify getting another one. They are a lot of work and I couldn’t really do it on my own. Maybe someday!
We all have hobbies and stress relievers to help us cope with trials and sorrows of this life. My animals are a huge part of what keeps me sane and brings such joy and comfort. If I need a companion, I always have a selection. If Im feeling down, I always have a living creature to make me smile. I have to make sure each day that they all receive the proper care. That is a constant reminder that my Heavenly Father is also caring for me and making sure I have every available resource to make it in this life. I’m very grateful for each one of my furry friends, all they have taught me, and the incredible joy they have brought to my life.
