Observation

It’s  The Details That Make Things

Come Alive To Us

ObservationI love to read. I also love to take pictures. My camera is always close at hand and I currently have 27,000 pictures on my phone and laptop that I can quickly access from a cloud. I have found that my love of reading and photography has taught me a very keen observation of detail. When I’m engrossed in a book, I can feel like I’m really there in those pages!. I’m feeling their emotions, and I’m seeing the surroundings because of the intricate details the author has presented. He/she has woven a tapestry of words that portray a very vivid picture in my mind.

When I’m taking pictures, I can patiently wait for long periods of time to get that perfect shot. I can wait for the sun to be at a perfect angle. Or the snowflakes to be a certain size to capture their beauty. I take many, many shots of the same image to get the perfect one. A picture truly expresses what words cannot. As each new flower blooms in my garden, I am close behind with my camera, capturing it’s radiant beauty. I marvel at the God who created such a variety and such incredible loveliness. I never tire of my flowers.

I was up in northern Michigan last winter standing on the shores of Lake Michigan waiting for the waves to crash against the lighthouse. It was so cold, below zero. I waited though until I had that breathtaking shot. My lense captured every detail of those icy waves in the gray sky and the snowflakes that fell heavily.

I am aware of every little change in my garden. I’m conscious of the habits of the birds that come to the feeders, and even the noise levels of the bullfrogs in the pond. I have taught myself to pay close attention to detail.

When I open my bible I expect the same thing. I want to feel what those precious people felt through the pages of time. I want to know the Lord As they knew Him. To hear His voice address my fears and calm the storms. I am always encouraged when I read of those saints who overcame  such adversity because of a trust in a supernatural God who doesn’t change.

When I rode a camel on the desert in Egypt, I could relate to the uncomfortable trek that Rebekah made to meet Isaac. Believe me it was not an easy journey! Now when I read that story in the bible it is alive to me!

When I read about Jesus praying in the garden. I can picture the olive trees and the agony, the anguish. I need to see it with my heart. I need to feel those tears that he shed that day for me, for you. He was taking our punishment. I want to feel that reality every time I  open the pages of my bible.

I want to be so in tune, so observant that I  can picture every detail. I can receive even the slightest little whisper from my heavenly father. I want to be able to read between the lines and feel His encompassing love for me.
