Cast Iron Cabbage

Cast Iron Cabbage

I’m learning to cook in cast iron in my grandmother’s cast iron pans and I am loving it. I have found that putting oil on my pans after every use has made them wonderful non stick pans. Everything I have made so far has been delicious. We love cabbage and grow a lot of it in our garden. This simple recipe was my latest version of experimenting with my new /old pans!

Ingredients

  • 1 small head of green cabbage
  • Olive oil
  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

I sliced up the cabbage and heated a few tablespoons of olive oil in my cast iron skillet. I added the cabbage to the pan and stirred it often as it cooked down. Cast iron cooks quickly as the heat is distributed so evenly. As the cabbage cooked down it started to blacken, creating that perfect taste! I added salt and pepper and just before I removed it from the stove I added a little bit of butter. It was wonderful, no leftovers!
