Honduras Part 11

Thursday January 25, 2001 Day 11 of Honduras trip

Honduras Part 11We decided to eat breakfast here at the hotel. This is the first time we were alone without an interpreter. We decided we now knew enough Spanish to order breakfast on our own. I told John I knew how to tell the waitress to put “cold” milk on his cornflakes instead of “hot” like yesterday! He had pancakes with real American syrup and cornflakes. I had fresh fruit. I’m still really cautious about what I eat.

I didn’t go to the service again today. John said the roads would be even worse than yesterday. I have banged my head on that truck enough times to know better than to go. It’s also very hot and windy here. So far I have been managing well with my contact lenses. I forgot to bring an extra pair. I prayed every day that this pair would last. I kept reminding the Lord that the children of Israel were in the wilderness for 40 years and their shoes never wore out!

We always tease Bro Casco about being late! John and I are always ready on time and waiting on him. Now when he tells us what time he is picking us up, we ask if it is Honduran time or our time! Honduran minutes seem to be very long! I also tease John about preaching with an interpreter. I told him when we go home and he is preaching, he will stop and pause for the interpreter but there won’t be one!

This trip has been so exhausting. I told John when we go home we will need to go on a vacation and just sleep. I’m looking forward more and more to the comforts of home. Just the thought of a real cup of coffee or a cold glass of fresh iced tea makes my mouth water! Carpet and hot water! Snow!!!! Yes I miss home!

We bought some coffee beans at the airport in El Salvador. We had about an hour layover on our way back from Nicaragua. We used our combo of Spanish and sign language to buy the beans. It was a very funny thing to behold!

We went to Bro Mendoza’s church for the next service. We had watermelon and cantaloupe after the service at his home which adjoins the church. I was so glad it was fruit and I could eat it without fear of getting sick. I definitely won’t be cooking any rice or beans for a really long time when I get home!
