Treacherous Roads

Make sure the Lord is at your side as you navigate the treacherous roads ahead

Treacherous RoadsI went on a little road trip yesterday with my daughter. We drove some fixtures for my husband’s business to Grand Rapids. This normally takes about an hour and forty minutes one way. I knew there was snow in the forecast and I wanted to miss as much as possible. The weather channel predicted the snow would begin at 10 am. We left at 6:30 a.m. hoping to miss the worst of the storm.

As we approached Grand Rapids it began to snow heavily. We started seeing cars in the ditch and accidents with emergency vehicles in attendance. I don’t mind driving in the snow but there was a layer of ice underneath the snow, making the roads very slippery. We completed our delivery and began the now dangerous trek home. We counted 11 accidents and 7 additional cars in the ditch. I was very thankful for my 4 wheel drive vehicle that gave me confidence on the snowy roads. We arrived home safely after our 5.5 hour delivery.

As I pulled into the driveway with a sigh of relief, I thought about all those people who were involved in those car accidents. Were they injured? Would their insurance replace their vehicles? Would they be traumatized to drive this winter? I then began to think about all the storms we have to navigate in this life.

Are we driving too fast? Are we speeding past the obstacles God has provided for us to overcome? When we approach a traffic jam, most of us sigh in frustration, check the clock to see how much of a delay this will cause in our schedule, etc….. Do we ever stop and consider that God knows exactly about this delay and He is still in control? Did you ever stop to consider why there is a delay?

We were going to a hockey game one night and we were running late. When I got in the car my husband apologized that the car was literally on E. We had to stop and get gas which put us even further behind schedule. We have to change highways 4 times to go to the game. As we approached that last highway there was suddenly a sea of red brake lights in front of us. A five car accident had just happened, emergency services had not arrived yet. My husband looked at me and we realized that our pit stop to get gas had probably saved us from that wreck.

We serve a precious Lord who knows what is best for us despite our constant desire to take the easy way. We have to navigate treacherous roads of health issues, financial problems, relationship issues, etc…. He is always there providing GPS coordinates and a navigation system called the Bible. The Bible has been proven repeatedly and no matter what kind of conditions we are facing we know it will stand the test.

I’m so thankful to know He is always present, always watching over His children. Nothing goes unnoticed and His love and care go far beyond our comprehension. As I was driving yesterday on the treacherous roads I was also confident of the presence of my Heavenly Father in the vehicle.
