Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Sweet and Sour Meatballs
This has been a requested recipe at all of my children’s graduation parties. It’s easy to make and you can easily serve them in a crockpot. When I’m making a huge quantity I make them in advance and freeze them. I make the sauce the day I plan on serving them and add the meatballs at that time.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 green pepper chopped
- 2 eggs
- approx 3/4 cup of Italian bread crumbs
- seasoning salt
- 32 oz jar of grape jelly
- 2 12 oz. bottles of chili sauce
Instructions
Mix meat with chopped onion and green pepper, add eggs and breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly and sprinkle with seasoning salt. I mix the salt very thoroughly through the mixture and add as much as I deem necessary. I really don’t measure things I just add according to taste
Form into meatballs and brown in a skillet, I use cast iron. While the meatballs are browning, empty the jar of grape jelly into a large pan such as a Dutch oven and start to heat it. As it heats I whisk it to break it down. When it becomes liquid I add a bottle of chili sauce and blend together. I only use about half of the second bottle of chili sauce to get the taste I want. I drain the browned meatballs on paper towels then add them to my sauce mixture. Voila!
