Honduras Part 3

Wednesday January 17, 2001 Day 3 of Honduras trip

Honduras Part 3The hotel was beautiful from the outside. Now I know why we shouldn’t judge by the outward appearance! The room has no carpet, in fact I haven’t seen any carpet yet since I have been here. The temp of the water is the same, between freezing and lukewarm. The bed was like sleeping in a bowl of jello or maybe a sponge or a slinky! Thankfully it is air conditioned as it is very hot here.

I am missing my children and the comforts of home. John said it was like a vacation for the first 6 hours while we were still on the plane! It is very noisy here, I would love to disengage all of the car horns here and make everyone go to America and learn how to drive.

We went to McDonald’s for breakfast. We noticed the hash browns are called McPapa. We didn’t understand the meaning so we found out a papa is a father or a potato, depending on where you put the accent! We are now on our way to a city called La Ceiba. It is on the ocean.

I am so glad I got to come here, despite the hardships. I’m so glad the Lord provided a way for me to come and experience this with John. There is no way written words or pictures could ever describe the feeling of being here. People always say your life will never be the same. I only agree to a point. Believe me, I am looking forward to the comforts of home and all that God has blessed us with! I really love hot water! The difference for me is that my burden has increased tremendously. I told John I wish we could give everyone a car and hot water and….but you know it isn’t possible and you realize the greatest thing you can give them is the opportunity to meet Jesus and the promise of eternal life.

It was a lot of driving today and I was hot and tired by the time we reached La Ceiba. We did stop by the ocean for a few minutes and it was just gorgeous. Honduras is a very beautiful country. I have never seen so much fruit in my entire life. There are bananas everywhere. We have seen huge banana plantations and lots of pineapples too. There are many coconut palms and African palms that they extract oil from. This oil is a major export item.

Here in La Ceiba you see little shacks scattered along the oceanfront. I know in America this property would be worth millions. We had lunch at the pastors house. So far the food has been good. They either have tortillas or fried green bananas with their meals. I always give these items away!

We are now at our hotel. There is a little balcony which is where I am now. I can see the ocean several blocks away. This is the first place we have been that has hot water! Yay I can hardly wait to wash my hair in real hot water!!

I have been reading in the papers ( not really since I can’t read Spanish, I just look at the pictures!) of the earthquake last Sunday in El Salvador. They say it will take 10 years to rebuild. I know how devastating hurricane Mitch was to Honduras so I can just imagine the same sort of damage these people are facing.
